PERSONNEL AND RESOURCES

The 724th AMS is comprised of approximately 61 active-duty and Italian local-national personnel providing passenger, cargo, and special handling support to 20 missions monthly. The squadron operates on a $1.2 million budget, maintains $12 million in facilities, and is responsible for $6 million in vehicles.

ORGANIZATION

The 724th AMS consists of a Combat Readiness Flight, a Passenger Services Section, an Aircraft Services Section, and an Air Terminal Operation Center. The unit is located at Aviano Air Base, Italy, and falls under the 721st Air Mobility Operations Group and 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing, both located at Ramstein AB, Germany.

HISTORY

There has been a documented Mobility Air Forces presence at Aviano AB since 1955. The 724th Air Mobility Squadron originated in the 1970's as Detachment 1, 435th Tactical Airlift Group, followed in the 1980s by Det. 5, 332d Airlift Division, 625th Airlift Support Group. In the 1990's, Air Mobility Command, created Det. 3, 621st Air Mobility Support Group, and in 2001, the 621st Air Mobility Support Group became the 721st Air Mobility Operations Group. Det. 3 was deactivated on March 1, 2005 and on this date, the 724th Air Mobility Squadron was activated.
