We Are All Wyverns: Hispanic Heritage Month

For this "We Are All Wyverns" we'd like to introduce you to Staff Sgt. Camilo Guzman, 31st Civil Engineer Squadron Water and Fuels System Maintenance technician! Hispanic Heritage month begins September 15th and ends October 15th. The month recognizes and celebrates the contributions and influences of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. Guzman was born in Colombia but moved to the United States when he was 13, by the age of 26 he was a college graduate and the first member of his family to join the United States Air Force. Guzman said he wanted to make something greater of himself and decided to step out and enlist in 2015 from Puerto Rico. One of the goals of the Hispanic Heritage Association is to help make individuals feel at home and become more culturally aware, said Guzman, vice president. “It keeps me attached to my roots,” said Guzman. “I like to bring everybody in this environment because it makes you feel together, it makes you feel like a family even though we’re overseas.” Guzman is proud of his heritage and encourages others to become more culturally aware of Hispanic heritage. “It’s everything to me,” said Guzman. “It’s where I came from, where I grew up, it’s what makes me who I am. Of course I'm American as well, I lived more than half of my life in the states. We're trying to make a big community and everyone is welcome.” We all may have different stories, experiences, and diverse backgrounds, but We Are All Wyverns.
