AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- While Aviano in 3D captures what Team Aviano does on a daily basis, our vision is the destination where we want the consistent and long term practice of our mission to take us. Our end state should be: "A Premier, Go-To Fighter Wing and Trusted Ally, Caring for Team Aviano and Families."

We will become "A Premier, Go-To Fighter Wing" through training and retaining combat ready Airmen, the linchpin in our ability to fight and win our nation's wars. Airmen like this will in turn enable us to fully leverage the capabilities of our current force structure and weapons systems while simultaneously integrating new units and platforms as they enter into the wing in the years and decades ahead.  Whether responding to conventional threats in Eastern Europe or the asymmetric threats emerging more frequently in Northern Africa, the 31 FW will handle each challenge with quiet confidence, competence, and persistence.

We will become a "Trusted Ally" by repeatedly displaying resolute commitment to our Article 5 NATO commitments and following through on our obligations to our partners. As a critical element of our combatant commands' and major command's forward force presence in Europe, our persistent and deliberate engagement will signal to both our allies and our adversaries that if deterrence should fail, Aviano will act in a timely and decisive manner.

"Caring for Team Aviano and Families" will become a reality when we go above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of the health, safety, and welfare of our Airmen and their loved ones.  As the Chief of Staff said, "Airmen taking care of Airmen must be our bedrock.  No one can succeed in this business--or in life--alone."  A key indicator in our progress will be when every one of our--and not just the majority of--Airmen and dependents are excited about coming to Aviano and remember the closeness of its community long after changing duty stations.  We seek to make Aviano and the surrounding communes havens of safety, our units abounding in interpersonal harmony, and our families overflowing with dignity and love.

A Premier, Go-To Fighter Wing and Trusted Ally, Caring for Team Aviano and Families...our destination; our vision!
