Col. Fredrick G. Plaumann is Commander, 31st Maintenance Group, 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy. The group consists of four squadrons and one Geographically Separated Unit (GSU) that provide aircraft maintenance and munitions support to the 31st Fighter Wing and other units throughout NATO's southern region.
Colonel Plaumann began his Air Force career in January 1989 after completing Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He has served as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Logistics Branch Chief at Headquarters Air Combat Command and 1st Maintenance Group Deputy Commander at Langley AFB, Va. Colonel Plaumann has led squadrons in Air Education and Training Command and Pacific Air Forces to multiple major command and higher headquarters honors and served tours in F-22 Raptor flight test units and with the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force.
