Colonel Brian D. Pukall is the commander of the 31st Mission Support Group, Aviano Air Base, Italy. In that capacity, he commands all mission support and logistics functions for a base community of nearly 10,000. This includes the operation of six Aviano-based squadrons: the civil engineer squadron, the communications squadron, the contracting squadron, the logistics readiness squadron, the security forces squadron, and the force support squadron. Together these units ensure the 31st Fighter Wing's ability to mobilize, deploy, and employ combat airpower. They also sustain the base's in-place missions, its workforce and their families, and base infrastructure worth over $4 billion, while simultaneously providing security for the base and its fighter mission.
Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Pukall was Executive Officer to the AETC Commander. He has instructed at the Air Command and Staff College and previously served as Commander, 21st Operational Weather Squadron, Sembach Air Base, Germany. In addition, he completed a joint assignment at Headquarters, United States Southern Command serving as a Political-Military Affairs Officer and as the Executive Officer to the J-5.
Colonel Pukall entered the Air Force in 1992 after completing the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at North Dakota State University. He speaks both Italian and Spanish and, in addition to his meteorological specialty, is also certified as a Regional Affairs Strategist.
