9/25/2012 - AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- 31st Fighter Wing leaders officially kicked off the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas here Sept. 25 during a breakfast at La Bella Vista Club.
The campaign offers service members and federal employees the opportunity to contribute to more than 2,500 charitable organizations, runs through Nov. 16.
"A gift is something given to show favor. [Service members] are always giving a gift, giving of themselves and giving of their time to make the world a better place," said Peige Rosales, guest speaker and Aviano Elementary School teacher. "That is what the CFC is, what it represents. It's a gift to people and a gift to the world that we give in hopes of making the world better."
The available charities cover hundreds of causes, including vaccinations in Third World countries, feeding the homeless, research for cures, school supplies for less fortunate children, disaster relief, veteran care and more.
"The CFC is an important opportunity for us to give to the world community," said Brig. Gen. Scott Zobrist, 31st FW commander. "It is important to give, either big or small, because everyone has been touched by a tragedy or event in their life that some organization in the CFC could have helped with."
For those who can't find a cause to support in the list of available charities, there is an option to contribute directly to base family support and youth programs that can aid in improving the quality of life in the Aviano community through programs like Spouse Start, Heart Link and Bundles for Babies.
"Anyone looking to donate can rest easy knowing that whatever cause they choose to support, their donations will get to the people that need it most," said Capt. Benjamin Muse, 31st FW CFC representative. "All of the charities are put through a detailed vetting process every year to ensure they are an honest and truthful organization that does what it says it will with contributions."
Team Aviano members interested in contributing to the campaign have multiple ways of giving, including one-time payments, monthly allotments, electronic check, or debit and credit cards. To make an electronic donation, visit www.cfcoverseas.org.
"Aviano has always been a strong supporter of the CFC," said Muse. "With everyone's help we can build on last year's successes and show that Team Aviano has a lot to offer."
