Airmen assigned to the former 40th Tactical Group at Aviano Air Base, Italy, set up 20 tents capable of housing 600 refugees within 24 hours of the initial earthquake which struck the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region May 6, 1976. Italians and Airmen assigned to the former 40th Tactical Group at Aviano Air Base, Italy, worked together to clear roadways of debris to enable supply vehicles to transport relief materials to the May 6, 1976, earthquake victims. The town of Forgaria nel Friuli, a community of about 3,000 people, had 70 casulties and almost total devastation of its homes.
