Aviano Air Base spends close to $400,000 each year on disposing of illegally dumped items on base. The base refuse center is open 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It is located adjacent to building 10462 on Area F. Only government generated items are accepted. The exception is for dormitory residents who may use the BRC to dispose of bulk trash items. Brig. Gen. Scott Zobrist, 31st Fighter Wing commander, exalts the virtues of a new, energy-efficient dormitory being built Feb. 23 at Aviano Air Base, Italy. Wing leadership plans to move all U.S. Air Force assets out of Area 2, returning it to the Italian air force. The new dormitory will remove the plan’s primary roadblock. The facility also has a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver-certified rating for efficiency, significantly reducing the Air Force’s carbon footprint and utility bill. It is Italian law to have either snow tires or snow chains when traveling on the Autostrada or through the mountains. Failure to do so can result in a severe fine. Winter tires can be bought at The Exchange or Auto Hobby Shop and snow chains can be found at most local gas stations.

The main purpose of Zobrist’s visit to give thanks to the children and answer some of their questions. The club is consists of students whose parents will or are currently deployed. The Deployment Club gives students an opportunity to have a place for them to cope with all the stages of deployment from pre- to post- so they could continue to be active learners while their parents are gone.
