  • 606th ACS strengthens communication during AK21

    In support of Astral Knight 2021 (AK21), a joint multinational exercise involving six different countries and approximately 1,900 combined joint forces, two 606th Air Control Squadron (ACS) teams are operating out of forward-deployed locations in Slovenia and Croatia. At Aviano, the 606th ACS is on active standby to provide backup air control for the forward-deployed locations.
  • First Aviano Airmen to enlist in U.S. Space Force

    Two of our very own Wyverns transferred into the ranks of the U.S. Space Force during an enlistment ceremony at Aviano Air Base, Italy, Dec. 3, 2020. Senior Master Sgt. Sean Winters, 606th Air Control Squadron cyber operations and maintenance superintendent, and Senior Master Sgt. Paul Norris, 606th ACS cyber operations and maintenance operations superintendent, are the first Airmen to enlist into the U.S. Space Force while stationed here.
  • 606th ACS suits up for AK 20 in Poland

    Exercise Astral Knight kicked off in Poland Sept. 21, 2020, and featured participants from several European partners and U.S. service branches. The exercise aims to enhance the command and control integration, coordination and interoperability of air, land and sea capabilities and overlapping operations into the integrated air and missile defense enterprise in Europe.
  • 606th Air Control Squadron engaged and ready to support Astral Knight 2019

    The day started at 5:30 a.m. on May 23, 2019, a crisp spring morning at Aviano Air Base, Italy. The rising sun had barely crested the horizon as vehicle engines roared to life inside the 606th Air Control Squadron’s compound. Headlights buzzed on, and row by row, the vehicles rolled past a small crowd of smiling 31st Fighter Wing leadership gripping coffee cups in one hand and waving goodbye with the other.
