AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy. --

At Aviano Elementary, anticipation is high this time of year. Students are excited to start a new grade and teachers are thrilled to meet their new students!

However, students, and teachers aren’t the only ones excited.

The Aviano Elementary Parent Teacher Association is thrilled to be a part of making a difference and act as a bridge for both families and the school.

“Aviano Elementary PTA is an organization that advocates and works to promote the health and welfare of children and youth,” said Christina Lary, president of the Aviano Elementary PTA. “We also seek to promote collaboration between parents, schools, and the community.”

The PTA serves a very significant purpose and strives to achieve this purpose on a daily basis.

“Our PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children,” said Lary. “By doing this, we give the Aviano community a voice for change.”

At Aviano Air Base, there are various organizations who improve the community’s quality of life.

The PTA is just one of many organizations that make things possible.

“Schools often rely on a PTA to provide financial support for teachers, administration, programs and events,” said Lary. “Our PTA works hard to boost morale throughout the community. By doing this, it creates a supportive and positive atmosphere for our school community.”

In the past year, Aviano Elementary was named National PTA School of Excellence for 2019-2021.

“Last year we worked hard with administration who were open to our ideas and helped to implement changes throughout the school to improve specific areas,” said Lary.

Last year, the PTA also helped coordinate Aviano Elementary first 5th grade dance and promotion.

“The students enjoyed the evening tremendously and danced their little hearts out,” said Lary. “The 5th Grade Promotion was an event that we wanted for 5th grade students and parents. PTA worked with administration and the 5th grade team to make this all happen. Thankfully, they accepted our idea and we were able to make it happen.”

It doesn’t stop there for the PTA. They plan on achieving so much more this school year.

“This year we are excited to sponsor funds for the school to participate in the Scripts National Spelling Bee. We are also excited to fund Student Council, this a program that the students of Aviano Elementary requested. This will be great opportunity for students to learn leadership skills and the ins and outs of how to run an organization.”

Overall, Aviano PTA is dedicated to the children of Aviano, to ensure they receive every opportunity and gain every experience they desire.
