7/1/2011 - Aviano Air Base -- First & Last Name: Brad Markwood
Rank: Master Sgt.
Unit: 31st Medical Operations Squadron
Duty Title: Medical Services Flight NCO in charge,
How long have you worked for the military? 14 years
How do you support the 31st Fighter Wing mission? I provide oversight of the Medical Services Flight which encompasses the Family Health, Pediatric, Internal Medicine, and Immunizations clinics. It also includes the Preventative Health Assessment cell. I ensure my medics keep our AD force deployment ready and reliable to accomplish the 31st Fighter Wing mission, while also caring for the entire Aviano family.
What's one thing you've learned about Italy's history, people and culture? Since being here in Italy, I've come to learn and appreciate the "laid back" Italian lifestyle. I admire how they take the time to enjoy the little things in life that most people take for granted such as enjoying spending time with families and friends. And I love the food and wine!
What's one advantage of being stationed overseas? I love the opportunity to take off on a weekend and see places in Europe that I never thought I would get to see. It's a blessing to be able to travel around and see all the history Italy has to offer and do it on a last minute trip. It also makes me appreciate certain things I take for granted when living in the United States.
What's your favorite European destination and why? Lake Bled, Slovenia for sure! I love the scenery of the lake, castle, and church in the small town atmosphere. They have amazing outdoor activities and the people are extremely friendly and accommodating. |
