8/4/2011 - AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- Contract arrangements have been finalized to have commercial service providers perform adjustments to Armed Forces Network satellites and decoders connected to Build-to-Lease and Government Rental Housing Program homes at no cost to the residents. This work involves the configuration and alignment of AFN decoders and satellite dishes from satellite Hotbird 6/9 at 13 degrees East, to the new satellite, Eurobird 9A at 9 degrees East due to the AFN's satellite delivery platform change effective July 31.

The 31st Fighter Wing received this news last week, and advises residents of BTL and GRHP housing that personnel from the sub-contractor are currently in the process of notifying residents of the free service available to coordinate times for a technician to visit. This Defense Media Activity contracted service covers 144 satellite dishes, which may be linked to
numerous private economy and government lease units.

The 31 FW is currently looking for any possibility of reimbursement to BTL and GRHP residents who have already paid for commercial adjustments. Those personnel not living in BTL or GRHP housing are not eligible for the service. Those who reside in BTL or GRHP housing and have already paid, should save all receipts and details pertaining to the service and e-mail manuela.fantin@aviano.af.mil.

Set-up varies widely among residences, from the location of the dishes to the models of the equipment to safety concerns. For more information about the change, visit http://www.afneurope.net/tabid/1995/Default.aspx.
