31st Mission Support Group



The 31st Mission Support Group goal is to provide world class infrastructure and service to support a premiere combat capability and quality of life to the 31 st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base community and multiple geographically separated units. The group is composed of six squadrons. The 31st Security Forces Squadron provides law enforcement services to the military community and maintains installation security during peacetime and wartime operations. The 31st Civil Engineer Squadron provides, operates and maintains the installation infrastructure, facilities and housing necessary to support aerospace forces at Aviano. The 31st Communications Squadron supports United States objectives throughout Europe's Southern Region with voice, data, imagery, airfield and information management. The 31st Force Support Squadron enhances combat capability, readiness and quality of life by providing programs, facilities, products and services. The 31st Logistics Readiness Squadron delivers and sustains combat logistics readiness support by planning and executing surface, rail, air and sea movement of passengers and cargo. The 31st Contracting Squadron acquires and supports war fighting capabilities through responsive business solutions and contracting support.

The 31st Support Group was established as the 31st Airdrome Group on Nov. 6, 1947 and briefly organized on Nov. 20, 1947, before it was discontinued on Aug. 25, 1948 at Turner Field, Ga. It was consolidated with the 31st Air Base Group on Oct. 1, 1984, making its home at Homestead Air Force Base, Fla. It received its current designation of 31st Support Group on Nov. 1, 1991. The 31st Support Group moved to Aviano Air Base, Italy, on Nov. 1, 1991. The 31st Support Group has been committed to providing support functions for units maintaining peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina in Operations Deny Flight, Deliberate Force, Decisive Edge, Deliberate Guard, Silver Wake and Deliberate Forge. In 2002, the 31st Support Group was renamed the 31st Mission Support Group.
