HISTORY The 510 Fighter Generation Squadron (FGS) was established in 2022, however follows the same history as the 510 Fighter Squadron following its transition from the 510th Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU). Unlike the AMU model, the FGS operates as a standalone squadron directly aligned with a single fighter squadron, the 510th Fighter Squadron (510 FS). Under the previous structure, an AMU functioned as a sub-unit within a larger Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS), supporting multiple fighter squadrons. In the four years since its activation, the FGS Buzzards have supported numerous NATO and CENTCOM operations.

In 2022, the 510 FGS generated combat-ready aircraft to support patrols for Operation Atlas Guardian, reinforcing NATO’s Eastern European allies and helping deter further aggression following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In 2023, the 510 FGS participated in Exercise African Lion, conducting joint air operations with the Royal Moroccan Air Force. The exercise focused on strengthening interoperability, improving air-refueling capabilities, and enhancing operational readiness across a multinational, all-domain environment.

In 2024, the 510 FGS deployed to CENTCOM for the first time in five years, supporting Operations Inherent Resolve and Prosperity Guardian. During the deployment, they enabled the 510th Fighter Squadron to fly 1,400 combat hours. The highest total flown by a fighter unit at Prince Sultan Air Base in the past 14 years.

In 2025, the 510 FGS participated in Exercises Anatolian Eagle and Thracian Star, conducting TDY flying operations centered on Large Force Engagements in Offensive Counter Air, Defensive Counter Air, and Close Air Support. These exercises advanced the USAFE mission by deepening integration with European, NATO, and CENTCOM partners, strengthening key partnerships, and enhancing the collective ability to operate jointly in future operations.
