Advanced weather technology aids flying mission, protects resources
A crane lifts a new Portable Doppler Radar system onto the weather systems tower at Aviano Air Base, Italy, Oct. 18. The project is part of an Air Force-wide initiative to provide three significant capabilities in one system: Doppler radar, the ability to transmit data over a Global Information Grid allows weather operators to better forecast severe local storms and mission-limiting wind conditions.
