Wing conducts surge operations

Airman 1st Class Lanora Goldy, 31st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, waits for the next approaching F-16 Fighting Falcon during a surge on the flight line, Dec. 15, 2009 at Aviano Air Base, Italy. The 31st Fighter Wing conducted the surge to test sortie production capability; allowing the wing to push its support functions to the limits, simulate pilot's war-time flying rates, and to help increase flying hours and sorties. The ultimate goal was to generate and fly maximum training sorties within a day. (U.S. Air Force photo/ Senior Airman Nadine Y. Barclay)
