Maintaining the Fleet
Staff Sgt. Daniel Sawn, 31st Maintenance Squadron inspection section floor chief, inspects the power drive unit bay for discrepancies during a phase maintenance inspection of an F-16 Fighting Falcon June 3, 2009, at Aviano Air Base, Italy. The inspection is part of a program requiring the aircraft to be inspected every 400 flying hours. On average, 200 discrepancies are found during these in-depth inspections geared toward finding everything as simple as a stripped screw or something cosmetic such as corrosion that won't ground an aircraft, to something major like a cracked fuselage bulkhead or landing gear system.
