Nickels over Bulgaria
Airmen 1st Class Brian Rowe, 31st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, marshals an F-16 Fighting Falcon being piloted by Lt. Col. Robert Winkler, commander of the 555th Fighter Squadron, Nov. 7, 2008, at Graf Ignatievo Air Base, Bulgaria. Colonel Winkler piloted an F-16D sortie with Nancy McEldowney, United States Ambassador to Bulgaria, in the rear seat during the 2008 Nickel Javelin exercise. Nickel Javelin is a 26-day bilateral training exercise between the U.S. and Bulgarian Air Forces. Approximately 250 Airmen from Aviano Air Base participated in the exercise.
