vRED

In the event of a service member’s death or serious illness, the Air Force sends a notification team consisting of a major or above, typically the member’s commander, a medical officer and a chaplain, to notify the family based from addresses listed on a member’s virtual record of emergency data. A vRED is an online document the Air Force uses to not only search for beneficiaries of service members, but helps determine payments of death gratuity and allowances.
