Local Legend

This week’s Local Legend is Lea Acampora, who was born in Agerol, Naples just about 30 minutes from the Amalfi Coast. Acampora has worked on base for 20 years. She has worked in the Department of Defense and 31st Security Forces Squadron Pass and Registration. Her favorite part about working for the U.S. Air Force is meeting people from all over the United States. Acampora actually used to live in the United States. When she was in Junior High School, she lived in New York City, in High School she lived in Ohio and for college she lived in Georgia. She has also visited New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, Kentucky and DC. Moreover, Acampora’s mother, Connie, used to tell stories about growing up during World War II. She told her family about the assistance and support her family received from the US military. Acampora’s mother said they would give them big blocks of chocolate and cheddar cheese. “These memorable moments taught my mother a life lesson I inherited myself…Always be grateful to Americans,” said Acampora. Finally, Acampora’s favorite thing about Italy is the weather, food, culture, history, traditions and the espresso. Her favorite place to visit in Italy is the paradise island of Capri. However if she could travel anywhere, she would travel to Japan and Africa. Her words of wisdom are “Explore and enjoy all of Italy, these might be the best days of your life.” It is great having you on the team, Acampora. We appreciate all that you have done, and all that you will do!
