Tuskegee Airmen honored with memorial in Italian city
From left, Piero Donato Silvestri, Mayor of Campomarino, Italy, Mr. Bruce Jones, Tuskegee Airman Council Pentagon charter president, and Mr. Jerry Burton, Tuskegee Airmen Incorporated national president, cut the ribbon in an unveiling ceremony of a new mural of Tuskegee Airman Benjamin O. Davis Jr., 332nd Fighter Group commander, in Campomarino, Italy, July 16, 2023. Because the Tuskegee Airmen were segregated from other service members, even during combat, the 332nd Fighter Group, which consisted of the 99th, 101st, 301st, and 302nd fighter squadrons, flew out of Ramitelli, a temporary airfield in Campomarino.
