The 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery’s U.S. Army Patriot Missile Systems participated in DEFENDER-Europe 21, associated with exercises Astral Knight 21 and Immediate Response 21, positioned in Croatia, May 17, 2021. Integrated Air and Missile Defense is likened to a highly coordinated immune system in the human body. Just as the body’s immune system detects, identifies, and neutralizes foreign invaders, like viruses and bacteria, IAMD leverages technology to detect, track, and destroy incoming airborne threats like missiles and drones. This year’s Astral Knight 2024 is slated to begin this week, May 6-18, 2024, exercising Integrated Air and Missile Defense featuring live flying and simulated combat scenarios, concentrated in Poland and the Baltic states.
