Aviano Rescue Squadrons train in the High North
A U.S. Air Force HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopter assigned to the 56th Rescue Generation Squadron based out of Aviano Air Base, Italy, releases flares during a combat search and rescue scenario as part of Exercise Cold Response 26 in Norway, March 13, 2026. The aircraft carried U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 57th Rescue Squadron based out of Aviano Air Base, Italy, and Swedish air force rangers based out of Ronneby, Sweden, during a combat search and rescue scenario designed to strengthen combat-ready personnel recovery capabilities in austere Arctic conditions.
