AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- The 31st Fighter Wing participated in surge flying throughout the week. Surge flying is a period of increased operations for those working on the flightline as sorties increase to provide ample training opportunities to pilots. LRS airmen are one of many career fields essential to flightline operations, especially during surge operations, as they deliver much-needed fuels for those aircraft to operate. Crew chiefs work alongside many other career fields in the Air Force to ensure the upkeep of aircraft assigned to the wing. Maintenance airmen work around the clock, often in less-than-ideal weather conditions, to keep the wing mission-ready.
