Parents in need of childcare for their children may take advantage of a little-known program at the CDC in order to receive daycare.

The CDC sublet program allows parents who have their children enrolled in the CDC to sublet their child's spot to another child temporarily.

"The sublet program benefits parents that are deploying or going on leave and other parents that are looking for childcare but are not on our list," said Deborah Barron, 31st Force Support Squadron Area F CDC director. "The parents deploying will not have the burden of fees or lose their spot, and the parents on our waiting list will get the childcare they need."

To take advantage of the sublet program, parents must follow the CDC's policies and procedures before renting the spot.

"The parents must make sure all children are eligible," said Barron. "Parents can check their eligibility through the CDC. The children must be the same age; the child's immunizations must be up-to-date; just to name a few."

Unfortunately, if a family is subletting space and the owner no longer needs the spot anymore, the parents subletting do not automatically receive the opening.

"It's simply not fair for the parents that have been waiting," explains Barron. "Since we have a waiting list, if an owner no longer needs that spot, it goes to the next parent waiting on the list."

Parents waiting for an open spot can take advantage of other childcare alternatives such as hourly care, childcare during Right Start, the volunteer co-op program and preschool classes during the school year.

"If parents do leave temporarily, and they absolutely cannot get anyone interested in subletting, the CDC will open that spot for hourly care," said Barron.

Sublets are advertised on the bulletin boards located at both CDCs.

"This program is amazing," says Jennifer Ramirez, spouse of Staff Sgt. Jimmy Ramirez. "When I visited the states, I was going to have to pay for my spot regardless. By renting it to another family, it provides an opportunity for them to have amazing childcare and mitigates my financial burden."
