The 31st Mission Support Group welcomed a new commander during a ceremony here June 28.

Col. Harry J. Lane assumed command of the 31st MSG from Col. Brian D. Pukall at the personnel alert holding area in front of family, Airmen, Soldiers, Italian air force members and local community leaders.

"The support group touches every aspect of life on an Air Force base," said Brig. Gen. Jon A. Norman, 31st Fighter Wing commander.

"Without your group, the base doesn't operate. It's a critical job," said Norman in front of a full audience to Pukall. "It's a job that you've done perfectly."

Pukall, the outgoing commander, commented on the many accomplishments of the unit and the dedication of the Airmen to overcome any challenge.

"No matter the challenge, the Airmen from (civil engineer), (communications), (contracting), force support, (logistics) and security forces not only faced it - they dominated it," said Pukall.

Lane stated his appreciation for the opportunity to lead the MSG and vowed service before self as the cornerstone of his command.

"Leadership is about service to others. No single individual is more or less important than the other, we all have a role, we all have a job and all must work together to accomplish the mission," said Lane, "This will be my focus throughout my time in command."

As commander, Lane oversees six squadrons and provides administrative, security, communications, services, logistics readiness, infrastructure support and development for all the 31st FW personnel.
