Several local towns host Ecological Days during the month of March to provide an opportunity for community members to gather and clean up their town, recycle and help the environment.

Volunteers are needed to help pick up trash in Aviano, Budoia, Fontanafredda and San Quirino. Food will be provided. Children are welcome. Participants are encouraged to wear gloves and brightly colored clothing.

"This is a great way to show the local residents that Americans residing in the communities care," said Giovanna Coppola, 31st Civil Engineering Squadron community recycling liaison. "It's also a great opportunity to meet your neighbors. Invite your family and friends."

-Aviano Ecological Day: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 at Casa dello Studente. The town sponsors a free lunch after the clean-up.
-Budoia Ecological Day: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 at Piazza Umberto I. The community sponsors a free luncheon after the clean-up.
-Fontanafredda Ecological Day: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 25 at Risorgiva Operative Center. The community sponsors a free lunch after the clean-up at Risorgiva Center and the mayor will present appreciation certificates. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for April 1.
- San Quirino Ecological Day: 9:30 a.m. March 31 at the town hall. Participants can sign up in teams and will receive a pair of gloves, bags, tape, markers and a certificate of appreciation. Whichever team gathers the most trash by weight will receive a trophy. The community sponsors a free lunch after the clean-up.

All participants who want lunch and, if applicable, a certificate of appreciation must call Coppola for a reservation. For more information or to volunteer, call the recycling office at DSN 632-2511.
