Team Aviano welcomes Tops in Blue Published Sept. 12, 2011 By Senior Airman Katherine Windish 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- The Air Force's premier entertainment group, Tops in Blue is scheduled to perform 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at Aviano Air Base's Personnel Alert Holding Area. The 2011 Tops in Blue Team will be performing this year's show "Rhythm Nation," a compilation of American music from the early 1900s through today. The free show will feature jazz pieces from Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday, rock and roll songs by Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, rhythm and blues tunes of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, hits by Jennifer Lopez and Michael Franti, as well as inspirational country songs and more. "[The show] provides a glimpse of a century of popular music and how it grew through new rhythms and technology," said Tops in Blue officials. Tops in Blue has been touring bases throughout the United States and the world for 57 years. Their tour schedule spans more than 125 locations and includes locations in Qatar, Afghanistan and Kuwait, building the morale of troops downrange. "This year's Tops in Blue team is indeed a reflection of the "Best of the Best," Tops in Blue officials said.
