CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE WEEK: Living in northern Italy provides great travel opportunities to many different countries. However when capitalizing on these opportunities this summer, ensure safety is a primary concern. Before taking a trip, research the desired destination through the U.S. Department of State's travel website at http://travel.state.gov. The website features up-to-date travel alerts along with country specific safety and security information. Keep in mind while touring a new area, travel as light as possible by avoiding excess baggage. Do not wear expensive jewelry or dress in a manner that attracts attention to you as a tourist. Criminals know that tourists typically carry large amounts of money and personal documents with valuable information. Avoid carrying all money and personal documents in one location such as a purse or wallet. Lastly, try to schedule travel plans in groups of at least two or three individuals; tourist who are traveling alone are suitable targets for criminals.
