Crime Prevention Tip of The Week: Although burglary accounts for only 4 percent of crime throughout the 31st Fighter Wing, it can be the most expensive. This is due to the damage caused by the burglar and the large amount of valuables taken. Individuals may not always be able to prevent burglary from occurring, even if they practice good crime prevention tactics. With that said, be proactive by taking inventory of all valuables; photograph small valuables, such as jewelry, and keep receipts for high value items. Store this information in a safe location, such as a file cabinet or fire proof safe. Another proactive idea is to buy renters' insurance. Most renters' insurance plans will compensate for loss in case of theft. Having an inventory of valuables on file will assist the insurance company and may help in compensation of stolen property. Practicing good crime prevention tactics, such as locking doors and windows, closing shutters and leaving exterior lights on at night is the best defense against burglary.
