Sept. 25 and 28: The 31st Security Forces Squadron received two reports of vehicle burglary. One vehicle was left unlocked. The stolen items consisted of the following: a laptop, two GPS, 8 euro, vehicle registration, vehicle safety inspection, and insurance paperwork.

Thefts from vehicles are common among the surrounding local communities. In fact, 29 of the 104 larceny reports were vehicle burglaries. Take the proper precautions and avoid leaving valuables in a vehicle whenever possible. If valuables must be left, remove them from plain view and store them in the trunk. Also, be aware that an unlocked vehicle is a prime target for criminal activity. Always lock the doors and close the windows, no matter where a vehicle is parked.

Sept. 30: A military member reported a set of rims, a two -ton jack stand, and a two -ton jack stolen from their residence in Ceolini. The member stated the items were locked in a shed within their fenced yard. No signs of forced entry were found. To protect your property, there are several security measures that can be implemented. These measures include increasing outdoor lighting, trimming vegetation around the perimeter of your residence, increasing the physical security of your outdoor storage facilities by buying durable locking devices, and establishing trusting relationships with neighbors. Every measure taken provides defense or acts as a deterrent for criminal activity.

Crime Prevention Tip of The Week:
Lost or stolen military credentials such as ID cards and restricted area badges negate force protection. Failure to properly maintain such forms of personal identification provides unauthorized individuals the ability to gain access not only to personal information, but also government installations. More than 164 incidents have been reported this year to include 159 lost ID cards as well as three stolen ID cards and eight lost RABs. Take an active role in increasing personal awareness to guarantee positive control. If credentials are lost or stolen, report it to the 31st SFS immediately at DSN 632-7200.
