For Airmen of the 31st Maintenance Squadron's Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory, attention to detail is critical to the success of their job. The PMEL Airmen support more than 5,950 different types of equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, torque wrenches and pressure gauges, by thoroughly fine-tuning them to meet the four criteria of accuracy, reliability, traceability and safety.

PMEL ensure accuracy, reliability and survivability of weapons systems assigned to U.S. Armed Forces and our NATO allies in the Southern European Region through the calibration and repair of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.

"The Airmen who work in the PMEL ensure the gear used to support weapon systems throughout southern Italy is safe, accurate and reliable," said Senior Master Sgt. David Batiz, 31st MXS, PMEL, test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment Flight Chief.

Making sure all of the equipment they are responsible for is working exactly as it is designed to can be especially important for mission success. It's a matter of hitting the target within three feet or missing it by three miles.
