Name: Carolyn (Beth) Neace

Unit: 31st Aerospace Medicine Squadron

Duty Title: Volunteer

How long have you worked for the military: I married into the military almost 2 years ago but have been at flight medicine for almost a year.

Hometown City, State and/or Country: Sikeston, Missouri.

How do you support the 31st Fighter Wing mission: My support of the 31st Fighter Wing's mission is two pronged. First, and foremost, I am a spouse that stands one hundred and ten percent behind my Airman so that he can focus on his duties and carry out the mission at hand. Secondly, I willingly give my time and energy as a volunteer to helping the wonderful Airmen of the flight medicine clinic. By being their first line of defense at the front desk, I field the questions and concerns of the clinic's patients so that those inquiries can be efficiently answered and improved upon by the clinic's Airmen.

What's one thing you've learned about Italy's history, people and culture: My favorite lesson that I have learned from the Italian people is their ability to separate work from their everyday life. Once the workday is done they turn to their friends and family and genuinely enjoy their time with them. I think Americans sometimes forget to leave their 'work' at work and bring it home with them, limiting their time with those they hold most dear.

What's one advantage of being stationed overseas: I have always loved history and growing-up land locked in the middle of the United States, I wanted to see more. For me the number one advantage of being overseas is seeing the site of a historical moment or visiting a place I've only ever read about. It's an amazing opportunity.

What's your favorite European destination and why? London is by far my favorite city in the world. It is fast and slow at the same time, depending on where you are and what you're doing. You could be in the very busy and vibrant Covenant Garden, but then veer off and find yourself in a peaceful park like Kensington Gardens where the world slowly drifts by.
