Aviano's Finest - Military Category Published Sept. 4, 2009 AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- Name: Staff Sgt. Joshua McClosky Unit: 31st Medical Support Squadron Duty Title: Biomedical Equipment Journeyman How long have you worked for the military? Four years Hometown City, State and/or Country: Monson, Mass. How do you support the 31st Fighter Wing mission? I ensure medical equipment is serviceable, safe and properly configured to meet the mission of the 31st Medical Group. What's one thing you've learned about Italy's history, people and culture? Perhaps this applies to all of Europe, but I've noticed that Italians in general are very fit and spend a lot of time exercising. I see them running or biking at all hours of the day, and age does not seem to be a factor. I see age groups ranging from children to the elderly out and about, getting exercise when the weather is nice. It helps keep me motivated to stay in shape. What's one advantage of being stationed overseas? Travel opportunities are easier to come by and cost me less being stationed overseas. When compared to trying to travel to Europe from stateside, you can do more with less here. What's your favorite European destination and why? I've visited Firenze, Italy several times, and I've always enjoyed myself. There are plenty of museums and sights to see during the day, the city is beautiful at night (and not too busy), the food is the best I've had in Italy, and it's relatively close to Aviano making it a great week-end getaway. Why I nominated Staff Sgt. McClosky as one of Aviano's Finest? "Staff Sgt. McClosky just received a 90 on career development course 4A271, and recently received the John L. Levitow Award at his Airman Leadership School graduation! As an outstanding member of the support squadron, he exemplifies customer service and technical expertise and is one of our finest." - Lt. Col. John Savage, 31st Medical Support Squadron commander.
