Aviano welcomes new maintenance group commander Published Aug. 17, 2009 AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- Col. Dennis Shumaker assumed command of the 31st Maintenance Group during a ceremony held Aug. 17, 2009 at Hangar 3. Colonel Shumaker comes to Aviano from Ramstein Air Base, Germany, where he was the chief, Aircraft and Munitions Maintenance Division, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe. In his new capacity as the 31st MXG commander, Colonel Shumaker oversees three squadrons and one geographically separated unit, which provide aircraft maintenance and munitions support to the 31st Fighter Wing and other units throughout NATO's southern region.
