The 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs office unveiled a new design for the Aviano public Web site Wednesday, mirroring that of Air Force Link and other base Web sites across the Air Force.

The new design features a variety of new capabilities in addition to a larger layout and cleaner look.

"We're excited about the redesign and hope the men and women of Aviano feel the same way," said 2nd Lt. Brian Wagner, 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs deputy chief. "The new site is more user-friendly and makes pertinent information readily accessible. It also includes some new technologies such as a spotlights section and video player that really draw viewers in."

Some of the new features include a community calendar with the latest base happenings, video capability featuring the latest base videos, a blog-like commenting option for local content and an improved search capability.

"The community calendar is a great new option to find out what's going on around base," said Lieutenant Wagner. "We've also included some of the more popular community links on the front page to make things easier for our customers including the 31st Force Support Squadron, Airman and Family Readiness Center, the AAFES Reel Time Movie schedule and more."

The base Web site's recent changes were part of an Air Force Public Web Program project, which was a service-wide effort to consolidate all public Web sites to improve security, reduce redundancy, increase performance and standardize site appearance across the 315 sites in the program.

AF.mil was the first Web site to display the new design in May, with the remainder of the Air Force's sites migrating to the new format this year. U.S. Air Forces in Europe bases underwent the change this week.
