Unit: 31st Aerospace Medicine Squadron

How long have you worked for the military? 2 years

Title of address: Mrs.

First & Last Name: Jody Zulawski

Duty Title: Bioenvironmental Engineering Secretary

Hometown City, State and/or Country: Havana, Ill.

How do you support the 31st Fighter Wing mission?
I manage the Bioenvironmental Flight's extensive record system, overseeing that all industrial hygiene surveys for Aviano Air Base industrial work centers are properly distributed, documented and stored. I coordinate the Occupational and Environmental Health Working Group, whose purpose is to protect Aviano personnel from industrial health hazards. Thus, I facilitate in protecting Aviano personnel from industrial hazards while they complete their mission.

What's one thing you've learned about Italy's history, people and culture?
I have discovered that Italy in itself is an extremely diverse nation. I am fascinated by the vast differences in culture between the various regions of Italy. Italy's early and extensive history has shaped the art, food, architecture, customs and language specific to each region, and no one is alike.

What's one advantage of being stationed overseas?
In living and working overseas, I have had the advantage of exposure to a culture different from my own. This is an experience that I am very grateful for.

What's your favorite European destination and why?
My favorite European destination is Trieste, Italy. This is my favorite spot simply because the large city offers diversity of natural landscape, mountain and sea, as well as diversity in its inhabitants and culture.

Why I nominated Mrs. Zulawski as one of Aviano's Finest?
"Jody is a critical component in the big Bio machine. She not only keeps track of the numerous pieces of correspondence, reports, requests and surveys going in and out of Bio, shouldering the heavy administrative burden, but she also helps to maintain our flight morale by planning activities, remembering birthdays, taking care of people, bringing a measure of "cheer" and keeping the 15-member flight cohesive and focused on accomplishing the mission." - Master Sgt. Angela Newby, 31st AMDS
