Team Aviano welcomed Col. Brian Kelly after he took command of the 31st Mission Support Group from Col. David Slade during a change of command ceremony here June 11.

Col. Kelly comes to Aviano from Miami, Fla., where he served as the Deputy Director for Human Resources, Resources and Assessments Directorate, Headquarters, U. S. Southern Command.

"It is an absolute honor and privilege to be part of the 31st Fighter Wing, 31st Mission Support Group and Aviano community," said Colonel Kelly. "I've admired the wing's past success and its reputation for excellence.

"To be given an opportunity to be a part of such a great team makes me feel like I've won the lottery. In addition, to be given the privilege and responsibility to lead such an outstanding group of men and women is really special. Our complete team (Airmen, civilians, host nation partners, and contractors) all deserve my best as we work side-by-side carrying out our mission."

The colonel added that he hopes to continue to lead the 31st MSG on the path of success in the ever-evolving Air Force.

"My vision is for the 31st MSG to provide world class support to our mission, our people and families and our infrastructure," he said. "We are a group uniquely positioned, trained and equipped to touch all three areas.

"We'll reach these world class levels by demanding and achieving the highest standards, by paying attention to details, and by fostering and nurturing a culture that supports and rewards innovation. Our ability to innovate, improve and find better ways to do business is particularly important in today's environment. Our world, our challenges, and our adversaries all constantly change and innovate, and we have to do the same. "

The commander closed by saying that he is looking forward to taking command of such hardworking and knowledgeable team in the 31st MSG.

"The men and women of the 31st MSG are simply incredible," he said. "While many are visible and out front on a daily basis, I have been impressed by how many more are behind the scenes just quietly taking care of the mission.

"The amount of work being accomplished on a daily basis is staggering. My initial impressions have been nothing but extremely positive from the first time I rolled through the South Gate and encountered my first 31st MSG member. The 31st MSG is a group of true professionals across the board. They have incredibly positive energy and are having fun as they accomplish the mission."
