Aviano's Finest - Military Category Published June 17, 2009 AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- Unit: 31st Force Support Squadron Rank: Staff Sergeant First & Last Name: Ashley Montgomery Duty Title: Customer Service Technician Hometown City, State and/or Country: I was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Richmond, Va. and Philadelphia (what can I say, I'm a military brat!). How do you support the 31st Fighter Wing mission? I am responsible for maintaining the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System and Real-time Automated Personnel Identification System. This includes updating personnel records to ensure they are receiving the correct benefits and creating identification cards for all Department of Defense entitled employees to include active duty members/reservists and their dependents, contractors and civilian government employees. I am also responsible for counseling military members on Sevicemembers' Group Life Insurance and ensuring that their SGLI is current and accurate. I am also a physical training leader. All these responsibilities are necessary in order to keep our unit members mission ready. What's one thing you've learned about Italy's history, people and culture? I've learned that Italians are very laid back, slow paced, and very family oriented. What's one advantage of being stationed overseas? Traveling and experiencing different cultures. What's your favorite European destination and why? I have been in Europe for only five months, but my favorite European destination thus far is Austria, because of the beautiful scenery and friendly people. It also has some great places to eat. Why I nominated Sergeant Montgomery as one of Aviano's Finest? "Sergeant Montgomery has been the epitome of a NCO since her arrival. She strives to learn every aspect of her job and constantly find ways to improve processes. She actively trains and mentors her subordinates. She also volunteers her time for extra-duty tasks; she is a squadron Physical Training Leader and devises challenging, yet interesting and fun weekly workouts for squadron personnel. She is professional, intelligent, hard working and a dedicated follower, peer and leader. She is a benefit to any team she is a part of!" - Master Sgt. Carol Wagner, 31st Force Support Squadron Note: Photo not available at this time.
