Airmen visiting the flightline area have spent months watching it being built and now it's finally open.

Aviano's Main Shoppette, next to the commissary and the base exchange, opened today at 8 a.m. and will remain open until midnight.

"This shoppette is more convenient for the people on this side of the base," said Lorraine Davis, Aviano Main Shoppette manager. "They no longer have to drive to Area One if they need something [when the BX and commissary are closed.] We have troops living in the dorms across the street but the Grab and Go at the commissary doesn't sell everything Airmen might need. It's easier for them to walk over here. "

The new shoppette sells all sorts of merchandise such as beverages, cleaning supplies, car parts and they have an extensive snack aisle. However, this shoppette doesn't sell toys or furniture.

Additionally, the new shoppette will have a large movie rental section, which moved from the base exchange. All movies that were rented at the BX must be returned to the new shoppette.

The shoppette is open Mondays through Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 6 a.m. to midnight, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
