AVIANO AIR BASE, ITALY -- Brig. Gen. Tad Clark, 31st Fighter Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Jeremy Unterseher, 31st FW command chief, held a series of commander’s calls at Aviano Air Base, Italy, Oct. 25, 2022.
The purpose of the briefing was to provide Wyvern Airmen, civilians, contractors and local nationals clear guidance on where the wing is going in the future.
Clark and Unterseher discussed the wing’s vision, enduring priorities and lines of effort.
“When you show up to a new unit, team or organization, you don’t make changes on day one,” said Clark. “We elected to take three months to assess where we were, and then as a leadership team at the group and wing level, we came together to discuss where we are with respect to our vision, our enduring priorities, and our lines of effort.”
The vision of the wing is, “We are ready and adaptive warriors, committed to allies and partners, who are devoted to our community and one another.”
While the enduring priorities remain mission, Airmen and family, the new lines of effort are a road map for Wyvern Warriors to build a team devoted to supporting one another, the mission, and the community.
“Every single one of us is a warrior. We joined the profession of arms, and we need to maintain that mindset in every single thing we do,” said Unterseher. “If we lose that edge, we lose that competitive advantage.”

Throughout the commander’s calls there were also briefings from the 31 FW Airmen who attended the Air and Space Forces Association’s Air, Space and Cyber conference in Washington D.C., Sept. 19-21, 2022.
Topics of the briefings include the State of the Air Force, a technology expo and the present and future of the fighter aircraft. The AFA conferences sessions can be found here.
