Aviano Air Base, Italy --  A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 555th Fighter Generation Squadron conducts a Barrier Arresting Kit 12 demonstration at Aviano Air Base, Italy, Jan. 9, 2026. The 31st Civil Engineering Squadron is responsible for maintaining all parts of the BAK-12, which provides aircraft emergency stopping capability by using a catch cable to engage disabled aircraft when emergency landing is needed.
