Next 31 FW commander announced Published April 15, 2016 By 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- A new commander will take charge of the 31st Fighter Wing during a formal change of command ceremony in the upcoming months. Brig. Gen. (select) Lance K. Landrum will assume command of the 31st FW from Maj. Gen. (select) Barre R. Seguin. "Brig. Gen. (select) Landrum is a phenomenal leader and the right choice for Team Aviano," said Seguin. "His preparation includes time spent as a wing, expeditionary group and fighter squadron commander. Having commanded a fighter squadron right here at Aviano, he is well-versed in the European area of operations challenges and Aviano's contributions to overcome those challenges. As a personal friend, I attest to his commitment to excellence and servant leadership." The 31st FW commander leads the only permanently assigned U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft wing in NATO's Southern Region. With approximately 4,200 active-duty military members, nearly 300 U.S. civilians and 600 Italian civilian employees, the wing conducts and supports air combat operations and maintains munitions for NATO. Seguin will leave the 31st FW to assume the position of Director, U.S. Africa Command Strategy, Plans and Programs (J5) Directorate. The J5 Directorate develops command strategic guidance, plans military campaigns and operations, and conducts security cooperation activities within AFRICOM's area of responsibility, in order to deter and defeat transnational threats and to provide a security environment conducive to good governance and development in support of the Commander, U.S. Africa Command. Landrum comes to the 31st FW from Headquarters Air Force, where he is currently serving as the Director for Colonel Management, Deputy Chief of Staff Manpower, Personnel and Services. He has previously served as the 388th Fighter Wing commander, the senior military advisor in the USNATO Office of the Defense Advisor, and the 510th Fighter Squadron commander.
