In response to the discontinuation of Department of Defense funding for the Automated Housing Referral Network at the end of 2013, the Air Force will soon roll out a new housing database for service members this year, Enterprise Military Housing.

While the new Air Force site is still in the works, the Aviano Housing Office has created a temporary site to provide inbound personnel a way to view pre-screened and regulated housing options from housing staff.

Future house hunters can visit www.avianohousing.com and use the login: anonymous_aviano, with the password: 31FW_Aviano, to see the main page.

Once logged in, service members can search more than 200 houses and apartments by number of bedrooms, squared feet, distance from the base and monthly price.

The housing office will soon begin internal upgrades in preparation for the new system, which will be available to Team Aviano this spring.

"EMH is the new Air Force wide housing website to help keep records and has an upcoming section for service members to find houses," said Tammy Hardt, 31st Civil Engineering Squadron housing management chief. "It takes care of community housing, dormitory housing, provides statistics about home renters and stores base housing records."

Aviano Air Base is one of many U.S. Air Forces in Europe bases to transition into the new database.

Inside the new database, eMH is forecasting a new module, similar to AHRN, for service members to find housing in the spring. Aviano information technology specialists created a temporary website to use until the primary module is launched.

"One of the reasons why this type of website is important to Aviano is because we do not have any government housing," said Hardt. "Ninety-eight percent of personnel here live on the economy."

While this temporary website is essentially using similar information as AHRN, Hardt advises that service members can still use it if they want, but should be aware of the cautions.

"Because AHRN is no longer a government sponsored site, we cannot filter or update the information in any way," said Hardt. "AHRN is available and people can still use it, and they can still look at things, but we have absolutely zero control of it. Until we get all of the information transferred from AHRN to this temporary website, AHRN is absolutely an option."
