AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy --

Members from the 31st Civil Engineer Squadron electrical systems shop recently installed lightning protection systems to base infrastructure to prevent damage from a lightning strike. The lightning protection system includes lightning rods that safely direct the lightning’s electrical current to the ground via a copper wire. The electrical systems shop repairs and maintains electrical components on base including street and airfield lighting, base power, and the protection of underground fuel lines.
