Asian-Pacific Heritage Month schedule of events May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month - a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. The broad term Asian-Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island). Hula dance lessons: The Aviano Youth Program will host the dance lessons at 3:30 p.m. on May 8. Ping pong tournament: The competition will be hosted at the area 1 community center from 5:30-8:30 p.m. May 10. Island story book reading: The kids book reading is scheduled to take place at the library at 10 a.m. May 21. Closing Banquet: The Asian-Pacific Heritage Month closing banquet is scheduled for 6-10 p.m. at the La Belle Vista May 31.
