LVIS Gate open to POVs until June 14 The Large Vehicle Inspection Gate will be open to privately owned vehicles entering and exiting the base for a 30-day test period ending June 14. It will be open to inbound vehicles from 6 to 8 a.m. and outbound vehicles from 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Drivers are warned that left turns into the LVIS Gate are prohibited. Southeast bound traffic must go to the traffic circle and come back to make a right turn to enter the gate. Airmen Appreciation Barbecue May 24 The Aviano Top 3 Association is hosting an Airmen Appreciation Barbecue May 24 at 4 p.m. in the Area 2 dormitories. Free food and refreshments will be offered. Participate in Air Force climate survey The office of the Secretary of the Air Force will be sending out e-mails to request participation in the 2012 Air Force Climate Survey until June 25. The 25-minute survey contains questions that provide a view of your organization from the people that make it work. To shorten the survey time, the survey is tailored to your demographic specifically. Your responses will not be recorded in any official personnel file or accessed by anyone outside of the survey office. Individuals' survey responses are summarized and individual responses are kept strictly confidential. Participation is voluntary but highly recommended. Calling all breastfeeding mothers The Aviano Breastfeeding Support Group will be honoring mothers who breastfed their child for six months or more during World Breastfeeding Week in August. Aviano Roadrunners participate in local races The Aviano Roadrunners group comprised of runners, joggers and walkers, will be participating in several local races throughout the months of May and June. Experience Friulian castles The Friuli Venezia Giulia tourism office is now offering guided tours of local castles during the weekends. People needing access to this area may still enter and exit through one side of the gate. Base library closes for move May 18 - June 18 The Aviano Library is moving from Area 1 to Building 218 in Area 2 between May 18 and June 18 while a new library is built on the existing site. Pass and Registration office implements appointment only system for some services The Aviano Pass and Registration Office has implemented an appointment only system April 23, on a trial basis. The appointments are for initial registrations (specifically: purchasing vehicles from dealerships or local national personnel). The first available appointment time is 8:45 a.m. with the final appointment at 2:15 p.m. Appointments can be made no earlier than seven days in advance and no later than 24 hours in advance. Customers must have all required documents completed and available at the time of the appointment (missing/incomplete documents will result in appointment cancellation). Customers should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time to reserve cover plates, set up insurance, and have all documents verified. Walk-in service is still available for all other transactions. AFI license services now in Building 1403 All AFI license customers must report to the Pass and Registration Office in Building 1403 until further notice for all AFI license needs. The Compass seeks travel articles for publication The 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs office is seeking authors for travel articles and photos for publication to the Aviano travel magazine "The Compass."
