Wyvern Fighter Team of the Week: 31 OSS AFE
AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy – This week’s Wyvern Fighter Team of the Week is the 31st Operations Support Squadron Aircraft Flight Equipment flight. U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Ed Portan, 31st OSS AFE superintendent, U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. John Bertini, 31st OSS AFE flight chief, Tech. Sgt. Corey Harrison, 31st OSS AFE Quality Assurance non-commissioned officer in charge, and Airman 1st Class Jesus Baez, 31st OSS AFE apprentice, along with a team of eight other AFE members, distinguished themselves during a life preserver unit (LPU) inspection. During flight, pilots rely on LPUs to help them stay above the water should an emergency evacuation into water were to happen. During the initial inspection, members within the team identified a large amount of failures during their annual LPU inspection. The team then voiced the problem to the appropriate channels and informed multiple U.S. Air Force major command AFE flights with the same type of LPUs about the inspection failures. The team successfully identified, routed and resolved a problem they faced and resulted in a potentially life-saving difference. Wyvern nation is proud of your hard work! Keep it up!
