The legal, financial cost of Driving Under the Influence

Aviano Air Base, Italy -- Drinking and driving not only puts you at risk for hurting yourself and others, but it can also have dire legal and financial consequences. Consequences vary depending if the person had a previous Uniform Code of Military Justice violation. The following is a list of punishments Aviano Airmen have received in 2006 for drinking and driving:

February 
- An airman first class with the 31st Security Forces Squadron received 30 days extra duty, 30 days restriction to base, reduction to E-1, forfeiture of $589 for two months and a reprimand.

March
- A senior airman with the 31st Logistics Readiness Squadron received 45 days extra duty, 45 days restriction to base, reduction to E-1, forfeiture of $636 for two months and a reprimand.

May 
-  A first lieutenant from the 510th Fighter Squadron received a reprimand and forfeiture of $1,500 for two months. 
- A senior airman from the 31st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron received 30 days extra duty, reduction to E-3 and forfeiture of $797 for two months. 
- A senior airman from the 31st AMXS received a reduction to E-3, forfeiture of $846 for two months and a reprimand. 
- An airman 1st class from the 724th Air Mobility Squadron received 30 days extra duty, reduction to E-2 and forfeiture of $350 for two months.

June 
- A senior airman with the 31st Communications Squadron received 45 days extra duty, 45 days restriction to base, reduction to E-2 and a reprimand for drunken driving.
- An airman from the 31st SFS received a reduction to E-1 and a reprimand.

August
- A staff sergeant from the 31st Services Squadron received 45 days extra duty a reduction to E-4 and a reprimand.
- An airman first class from the 603rd Air Control Squadron received 30 days extra duty, 30 days restriction to the base, reduction to E-2, forfeiture of $250 for two months and a reprimand.

September
- A staff sergeant from the 31st Maintenance Squadron received a reduction to E-4, forfeiture of $1,009 for two months and a reprimand.
- An airman first class from the 31st SFS received 30 days extra duty, reduction to E-2, forfeiture of $713 for two months and a reprimand.
- A senior airman from the 31st Maintenance Operations Squadron received a reduction to E-2 and a reprimand.

October
- A staff sergeant received 30 days extra duty, reduction to E-4 and a reprimand.
