AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy – -- AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy – Airmen from the 31st Munitions Squadron and the 731st MUNS competed together in the U.S. Air Forces Europe Air Force Combat Competition at Aviano Air Base, Italy, April 21.
During the competition, the two squadrons formed a combined 12-member team, consisting of 10 primary and two alternate competitors.
“Coming here to participate in the competition was a great learning experience for me,” said Airman 1st Class Isabella Hubbard, 731st MUNS inspector in training.
The team had four weeks of training together before testing their job knowledge and speed in a series of events including a Munitions Assembly Conveyor build up, a written test, munitions build, a discrepancy check, trailer load and configuration, and MAC teardown.
“When we first started training together, we struggled with our communication, but it’s improved significantly and today it was the best it's ever been,” said Staff Sgt. Latwyan McBurnie, 31st MUNS munitions operations supervisor.
The team’s performance was judged by Weapons and Munitions Division evaluators from Ramstein AB, Germany. Airmen from Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England and Spangdahlem AB, Germany also competed at their bases throughout the month of April as a part of the USAFE competition.
“I think that we did well today,” said Hubbard. “I think that we came together fairly quickly and performed to the best of our abilities.”
Now that the 31st Fighter Wing team has won at the USAFE level, they will now compete at the Air Force level in August at Beale AFB, California.
